EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF 7th PSPC BIENNIAL CONVENTION

A total of 273 delegates attended the 7th Biennial Convention of the Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology held at the Sapphire Room of Crowne Plaza, Manila Galleria, Ortigas, Quezon City. The theme of the convention was “The Heart of the Matter: Common and Uncommon Symptoms of Heart Diseases in Children”. The delegates were composed of medical students, residents and fellows in training, general practitioners and subspecialists who came from all over the country.

There were 14 scientific lectures which focused on the diagnostic and therapeutic management of manifestations of heart conditions in the pediatric age group. A main highlight of the convention is the Dr. Evelyn Singian Memorial Lecture which dealt on cardiomegaly in children. There were 3 industry-sponsored symposia on topics pertaining to new trends in pediatric cardiology and fetal echocardiography.

The opening of the commercial exhibits was done after the opening ceremonies and was led by PSPC President Dr. Ma. Corazon Estevanez, together with PSPC Vice-President Dr. Bernadette Azcueta, Chair of Commercial Exhibits Dr. Regente Lapak together with PSPC Past Presidents Dr. Wilberto Lopez, Dr. Della Pelaez, Dr. Aurora Gamponia, Dr. Aurelia Leus and Dr. Eden Latosa.

The Fellowship Night was well-attended by the PSPC members dressed in their tattered and ripped jeans. It was an evening of fun and dancing hosted by the Socials Committee Chair Dr. Gerry Acosta assisted by Dr. Mayet Alarcon. The Best Dressed Female of the Night was awarded to Dr. Rose Castronuevo while the Best Dressed Male was Dr. Donald Cadelinia.
