PSPC All Set for the 8th Biennial Convention and 29th Annual Business Meeting
The Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology will be having a 5-day virtual 8th Biennial Convention from June 8 to 11, 2021 with the theme: A 360° Focus on Pediatric Cardiology: From the Generalist to the Specialist”. The 2020 29th Annual General Assembly and Business Meeting is set at 7:00 to 9:00 pm on June 9, 2021.
For the past months, the PSPC Officers led by DR. MARIA BERNADETTE A. AZCUETA (PSPC President) with the Organizing Committee of this convention chaired by DR. JUAN G. REGANION (PSPC Vice-President) and co-chaired by DR. MARTHA SOCORRO M. SANTIAGO (PSPC Treasurer), have been preparing a COMPLEAT scientific meeting which would interest any physician who will take care of children with heart diseases, whether he/she is a generalist or a specialist.

One of the highlights of this convention is the DR. EVELYN SINGIAN MEMORIAL LECTURE in honor of the “Mother of Pediatric Cardiology” in our country. This will be given by PSPC Past President DR. MARIA LOURDES STA. ROSA-CASAS in her lecture “Pediatric Cardiology in the Asia-Pacific Region in the Midst of the Pandemic” on Day 1. Likewise, there will be plenary lectures on pediatric hypertension (DR. AURELIA G. LEUS) and use of multi-modality imaging in congenital heart diseases (DR. JUSTINE IRIS C. YAP) and lecture series on cyanosis in children, patent ductus arteriousus in the preterm and cardiac emergencies.

There will be topics on pediatric cardiology referrals and panel discussions on multi-disciplinary approach to a challenging cardiac case, pre-operative clearance for a cardiac patient with co-morbidities, and medical and surgical post-operative intensive of cardiac patients with multi-organ complications.
Educational grants from the medical industry include scientific lectures on CCHD screening implementing guidelines (Medtronic), pediatric 3D/4D imaging (GE), role of IVIG in COVID-19 and MIS-C (Vizcarra), pre- and post-operative interventions in patients with pulmonary hypertension (McGraw Pharma) and choice for shunt or stent in cyanotic kids (Medtronic and Dicomed). DR. JONATHAN CHOO TZE LIANG from Singapore will talk on “Saline Contrast Echocardioraphy in Pediatric Cardiology” (Philips).
After the closing ceremonies on Day 5, the Socials Committee have prepared a fun-filled affair for the PSPC members during the Fellowship Night.
This convention has been awarded 31.5 PPS CPD units, 75 PHA CME units, 19 PMA CME units and 20 PAFP CME units Category II; PRC CME units from have likewise been applied. Our friends from GX International is the major industry support and virtual platform provider of this convention.
