
PSPC Members Attend 7th Congress of APPCS in Bali


About 25 members of the Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology led by PSPC President Dr. Ninfa J. Villanueva attended the 7th Congress of Asia-Pacific Pediatric Cardiac Society (APPCS) held last August 30 to September 1, 2018 at The Stones Hotel in Bali, Indonesia. The 3-day convention was in conjunction with the 6th Congress of Asia Pacific Society for Adult Congenital Heart Disease (APSACHD).
The APPCS founded in 2006, is a society of Pediatric Cardiologists, Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeons and other physicians and allied health personnel in the field of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease in Asian and Pacific countries. The APPCS holds a biennial congress wherein clinicians, researchers and world class experts come together to exchange knowledge and experience in the care of pediatric cardiovascular disease
This year’s scientific program consists of plenary sessions on “Challenges in National Health Coverage for Pediatric Cardiac Care in Asia”, “Progress in Neonatal Cardiology and Surgery” and “The Growing of Fetal Intervention on Congenital Heart Disease in Asia Pacific Region”. Likewise, there were simultaneous symposia, debate sessions, and free paper oral and poster presentations.
The PSPC members who were included in the faculty were:

Dr. Dexter Eugene Cheng: Lecture: My Experience on Interesting Cases of Interventional Cardiology
Dr. Jonas del Rosario: Debate Session 1- Close or Not to Close by Transcatheter Procedure in Small VSDs: Favor to Close; Lecture- Diagnosis and Management of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Limited Resources Countries
Dr. Maria Corazon Estevanez: Chair: Rheumatic Heart Disease
Dr. Ninfa Villanueva: Chair: Problems in Adult Patients with Post-Tetralogy of Fallot Repair
Likewise, Dr. Gisel Catalan, a Cardiac Surgeon from the Philippines talked on TOF Repair without Transannular Patch.
During the Business Meeting of the APPCS presided by Dr. Poppy Roebiono of Indonesia, the Philippines was represented by PSPC President Dr. N. Villanueva with PSPC Past Presidents Dr. A. Leus (current Vice-President of the Philippine Heart Association) and Dr. MC Estevanez. During the said meeting, the Philippines expressed its desire to host the APPCS Congress in 2022. The other country who also bidded was Pakistan represented by Dr. Masood Sadiq. The next congress will be in Taipei, Taiwan in 2020.
Some PSPC members also attended the post-congress workshop on Fetal Cardiology.
