
PSPC Led PPS Heart Month Scientific Meeting

The Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology (PSPC) was invited by the Committee on Scientific Meetings of the Council on Continuing Professional Development of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) to be the host of the monthly scientific meeting held last February 28, 2019 held in the auditorium of the PPS building.
To increase the awareness on Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease which is the the most common acquired heart disease among Filipino children, the chosen theme of the scientific activity was “Recommendations for Primary Prevention Programs in Rheumatic Fever among Schoolchildren in the Philippines”. Likewise, it was an opportunity to give a review of this preventable disease and also give updates on what we, Pediatric Cardiologists, are doing to combat this disease.

Dr. Ninfa J. Villanueva (PSPC President) introduced the two speakers. Dr. Ina de la Paz Bunyi (Vice-President of the Philippine Foundation for the Control of RF/RHD) talked on “Establishing Strep Throat Clinics in the Primary Prevention of Rheumatic Fever in Children” while Dr. Juliet J. Balderas (President of the Philipppine Foundation for the Control of RF/RHD and Chair of the Council on RF/RHD of the Philippine Heart Association) talked on “Collaborative Research Proposal on the Comparison of Clinical Pathway of Strep Throat versus Rapid Strep Throat”.
Dr. Regente I. Lapak (PSPC Board of Director) was the moderator during the open forum.
The scientific meeting was on-live video in several hospitals, such as Philippine General Hospital and Medical Center Manila, among others.
