PSPC Members in Visayas Unite for PCoW 2 in CEBU
The Philippine Society of Pediatric Cardiology (PSPC) in cooperation with Chong Hua Hospital had a successfull second provincial postgraduate course “PEDIA CARDIO on WHEELS” held last August 21, 2019 at the 12th floor Medical Arts Buiding in Mandaue Avenue, Mandaue, Cebu City.
The lead coordinators of the said activity were the PSPC members based in Cebu City led by DR. ANNA MARIE EDVINA S. CABAERO, DR. FRANCISCO E. REMOTIGUE, JR., DR. RUDY A. AMATONG and DR. MARIANNE NAOMI POCA.
On August 20, 2019, the PSPC members from all over Visayas with the PSPC Officers were treated with a festive welcome dinner and orientation at Rico’s Lechon Restaurant near Big Hotel where all the guests were billeted.
On the day of the postgrad, aside from the PSPC members in Cebu City, all the other members from the Visayas were present which included DR. MYLAH P. ALFECHE (Iloilo City/ Roxas City), DR. JULIA B. MAAPE (Bohol), DR. JONALLY P. REDONA (Tacloban City), DR. DESIREE R. GUBANTES (Dumaguete City), DR. JUDAH D. GOZAR (Bacolod City), DR. PAULINE T. NGO (Bacolod City), DR. MAE C. DAGOOC (Iloilo City), DR. REA L. FRANCO (Iloilo City), DR. ROSEMARIE P. CASTRONUEVO (Iloilo City), DR. SHELAH SALAYA-RUFFERT (Iloilo City), DR. MA. CONSUELO DOLORES L. TUMANENG (Bacolod City), DR. MARY JANE S. VILLANUEVA-RODRIGUEZ (Iloilo City), DR. MA. ELEANOR FLORENCIA M. PORTIGO (Iloilo City and Roxas City) and even retired PSPC member DR. VIRGINIA L. NUÑEZ (Roxas City).
DR. NINFA J. VILLANUEVA (PSPC President) with the other officers DR. MA. CORAZON A. ESTEVANEZ (Immediate Past President), DR. MA. BERNADETTE A. AZCUETA (Vice-President), DR. REGENTE I. LAPAK and DR. MARTHA SOCORRO M. SANTIAGO (Board of Directors) and Ms. AISA RAYMUNDO (PSPC Secretariat) joined the event.
Dr. Amatong was the master of ceremonies for the day’s scientific activity which started with a welcome address by PSPC President DR. NINFA J. VILLANUEVA. The lectures included basic topics in the diagnosis, work-up and management of children with heart problems. Dr. Tumaneng was the moderator in the morning’s session which included a lecture by an invited Pediatric Neurologist from Cebu City, DR. VICTORIA G. BAEL.
The two (2) speakers for the luncheon symposium were DR. KRISTINE MARIE GUTIERREZ and DR. JONATHAN GO LIM; the moderator was Dr. Salaya-Ruffert.
Dr. Franco was the moderator in the afternoon’s session. For the CME units, PCoW 2 was awarded 14.5 PPS, 10 PHA, 4.5 PCOM, 4 PMA, 14.5 PAFP Categry 2 and 7 PRC.

After the activity, the PSPC members proceeded to Buffet 101 where there was a short talk on “Use of Digoxin in Pediatric Heart Failure” by Dr. Remotigue before the farewell dinner.
Indeed, PCoW 2 in Cebu was a huge success! A big thank you from the PSPC for the hard work of Drs. Cabaero, Remotigue, Amatong and Poca and the rest of TEAM VISAYAS.
